HaTS (Haematology and Transplant Support) is an independent cancer patient charity, whose overriding objective is to provide and improve upon the support and care provided to patients and families of the Haematology and Transplant Unit (HTU) situated in The Christie Hospital. The patients in the HTU are battling cancers of the blood and lymphatic system, such as Myeloid Leukaemia, Bone marrow failure syndromes, Lymphoma, Myeloma and other associated disorders.
Originally known as ALUPAL, the charity will be celebrating 30 years of existence in 2016. The charity helps patients and their families overcome some of the day to day challenges they encounter when faced with life threatening illnesses and periods of isolation. The funds raised by HaTS are used to provide financial assistance to those patients and carers experiencing difficulties. The funds also help to improve the service provided on the HTU, for example, HaTS provide complementary therapies to patients and carers alike. These therapies help with the physical and emotional effects experienced as a result of a cancer diagnosis.
On 30th January 2016 (6-8pm), HaTS has secured one of only a very few dedicated track slots, for our supporters to ride the famous Manchester Velodrome.
The Smile Centre are delighted to be supporting this worthy cause. This event is suitable for novice and experienced riders alike. As long as you are 16+ and can ride a bike a mile or two (without stabilizers), you need no other skills. Coaching, bikes and helmets will be supplied. HaTS have commissioned a bespoke cycling jersey, co-sponsored by the Smile Centre, which will be sold to raise vital funds.
